2010 update

thanks to the incredible efforts of family, friends, neighbours and even strangers we are no longer collecting for Fletcher's treatment. thank you all - the support has been overwhelming and we are truly grateful.

special thanks to sue, ian, angela, bob - the 'plataforma' - for all (and i know that it was a lot) you did for us in spain.

thanks to john in england for your help coordinating events/other stuff.

finally, thank you to big mike, who made up the difference between the two funds and the total by cashing in his pension. legend.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fletcher was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in august - an anaplastic ependymoma.

he underwent 7 hours of surgery where most of the tumour was removed. however what remains needs to be treated as it will grow back.

conventional radiotherapy is not an option for us as it is so damaging to a young brain - there are just too many side effects that could cause Fletcher problems for years to come. Which is why we want to go to America for a new, safer treatment. This treatment is called proton therapy and is safer for children as there are fewer side effects. www.proton-therapy.org

unfortunately as this treatment is relatively new it is very expensive.

we need to raise around £130,000 for the treatment.

we are fundraising for the purpose of raising and safeguarding money to be used to finance the imminent – and future – costs associated with proton therapy for Fletcher.

if Fletcher remains well - once the remission period of 6 years following the end of treatment has been reached - any monies remaining will be donated to either similar causes to Fletcher's and/or donated to charities/services that have been used by us.

in order to do that legally in spain we have established the 'plataforma de ayuda a Fletcher' in torrox, malaga.

  • the money in spain is being safeguarded by the 'plataforma de ayuda a Fletcher'

in order to do that legally in the u.k. we are currently setting up a trust. details to follow.

  • the money in england is being safeguarded by M Deacon

thank you to everyone who has organised or taken part in one of the many fund-raising events in spain, england, ireland and tenerife.
